Skygroup, one of the new service providers?of Philippine Airlines (PAL), said it is still open to hire former employees of the airline who want to join the company.

While the?September 30?deadline requested by PAL management has lapsed, SkyGroup President Rory Jon Q. Sepulveda said its two service providers—Sky Logistics Philippines and Sky Kitchen Philippines—is open to applicants while vacancies last.

“The only difference between PAL employees whom we took in before the deadline is that they were guaranteed the jobs.?After the deadline, ex-PAL applicants would have to pass our screening and qualification process like everybody else,” he said.

Sepulveda added that applicants are subject to the availability of vacant positions, while qualified former PAL employees would be given preference due to their experience and familiarity of the work at hand.

Sepulveda admitted that SkyGroup’s manpower complement remains short, with only 30 percent of former members of the PAL Employees Association (Palea) opting to join.

Sepulveda said the SkyGroup has opened its doors to skilled workers interested in taking jobs either as customer-service agents, ground equipment operators, drivers, baggage handlers, mechanics, cooks, production staff and many others.

“We are now aggressively screening and processing applications to fill up these positions. There are also ex-Paleans who come to the office daily to apply for jobs,” he said.

The two firms expect to have the full manpower complement in time for the coming peak season by mid-November.

PAL is attempting to get back to normal operations as Skygroup adjusts to the pace and new work set up for ground handling and catering at the airline’s hub at the Ninoy Aquino International Aiport (NAIA) Terminal 2.

Sepulveda said former PAL workers who joined the two firms are working to ensure that passengers are properly serviced from the check-in counters, to baggage handling and in-flight catering.
